You can buy directly from our online store here.

Do I need to rinse your rice?

We do recommend lightly rinsing the rice for 1-2 minutes.

We chose to include this step on our new packaging because we found that it is a better eating experience because it removes some of the starch. This can make fluffier rice once cooked.

There isn't anything besides starch that you would be rinsing off, so it isn't completely necessary.

Feel free to check out these articles that go into this in more depth:

Do I need to rinse the risotto rice or entree rice?

The rice for our risottos benefits from surface starch, it helps achieve a creamy finished product with our cooking method.

The entrée rice doesn’t need to be rinsed as it’s parboiled, so most of the surface starch has already been removed.

What is the difference between brown and white rice?

All rice starts as a whole grain (typically brown, though some varieties are naturally red, black, or purple). The milling process determines whether it becomes brown or white rice. For white rice, the husk, bran, and germ are removed. For brown rice, only the husk is removed, leaving the nutrient-rich bran and germ intact.  Brown rice is whole grain and contains significant amounts of B vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. To learn more about whole grains and the health benefits of eating brown rice, visit the Whole Grains Council website.

What allergens are in your facilities?

The packaged, dry rice is made in a facility free from the top 9 US allergens and the top 11 Canadian allergens.

The regular Rice Cake and Thin Cake facility is free from the top 9 US allergens. This facility does contain mustard and sunflower oil.

Please email hello@lundberg.com or reach out to our Customer Service team with any specific questions about allergens.

Why am I seeing green kernels rice? Are they safe to eat?

Green kernels are natural and expected to occur. When a crop of rice is ready for harvest, any given stalk will contain a certain amount of green kernels. These green kernels are slightly less mature than the brown kernels. Very immature kernels that are smaller in size, are filtered out during our cleaning and husking process.

The full-sized green kernels are allowed to remain, since they have been analyzed and determined to be nutritionally developed. Over time, the green kernels will change to the color you are familiar with.

How does Lundberg's Basmati differ from traditional basmati?

The variety of basmati we grow and package is indeed a basmati rice. The fragrant aroma and taste is very subtle in our basmati compared to other types. It is different than many others on the market, probably because it was developed to grow in the California climate, which is different than other climates where basmati is traditionally grown. This could very well be the reason for the different qualities you are seeing.

What if I have a food safety or quality issue that I need to report?

Because rice is an agricultural product, it's susceptible to natural elements like insects and bugs (Yuck - we know). We have several quality checks in place—in our Drying & Storage, Milling, Packing, and Warehouse facilities—to make sure only our high-quality rice makes it into the bag, but once in a great while something can slip through.

While quality issues (like low or high seasoning, broken or crumbling rice cakes) can happen from time to time, and when they do, we appreciate the chance to investigate and learn more so we can address any potential concerns.

In these cases please email hello@lundberg.com or reach out to our Customer Service team so we can help resolve.

Do your products contain arsenic?

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element found in soil, water, plants, and animals. Because arsenic exists in soil and water, it’s inevitably found in many plants and food, including rice. Arsenic can also be found in flour, corn, wheat, fruit, poultry, vegetables, beer, and wine. We do test for arsenic and to learn more, visit Heavy Metals in Food.

Do your products contain cadmium?

Like arsenic, cadmium can be naturally occurring in the environment and therefore found in food. We do test for cadmium and to learn more, visit Heavy Metals in Food.
